The Upper West Regional Police Command on Thursday, April 10, 2025 successfully apprehended seven individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities on the Black Volta River at Chiantanga Community near Dorimon in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

The Seven (7) individuals arrested include; Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Amedzake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese, and Rebecca Tumawu.

Ten (10) Changfang machines, two (2) unregistered PNE and Apsonic tricycles and motorbike with registration numbers M-24-NR 6010, and M-23-UW 4413, two (2) unregistered Haojue and Apsonic motorbikes and six (6) student mattresses were retrieved from the site.

The suspects are currently in custody assisting investigation and will be put before the court.

The Regional Police Command reiterates its commitment to cracking down on illegal mining activities in the region.
