The Mayor of Wa Metropolis in the Upper West Region has expressed concern over high rate of School Dropouts at Kunfabiala No.1, a farming community in the Wa Metropolis.
In a Statement Released by Alhaji Nuru Danwana on Friday, 9th May 2025, it reads:
THE PLIGHT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN IN KUNFAABIALA NUMBER 1
In the early hours of today, I paid a working visit to Kunfaabiala number 1. This community is located after the University of Business and Integrated Development Sudies. The community has a population of about 1,009 with children of school going age of about 400 plus, yet the community does not have a school.

Some of these children walk to and fro Bamahu, a suburb of Wa which is about 7kms from the community and some walk to and fro Piisi which is about 10kms. It is reported that these children risk accidents as some are knocked down by cars on the highway, snake bites, and the hostility of the weather during the raining season. Some also get exhausted when they return from school. Many parents withdrew their children from school as a result.
A church in the community erected a temporary pavilion structure that has now been used as a school by parents who do not want to have their children risks walking to Bamahu. Members of the community have seen the prospects in taking steps to have their own school ,hence initiated a community self-help project. This initiative had the blessing of the Hon. Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon Alhaji Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo supported them with building materials to build a 3 class room block.
I observed during my visit that their situation deserves the support of all.
Education is right, and every child must enjoy access to free basic education. It is so unfortunate that our future leaders have to go through these challenges while their colleagues elsewhere enjoy better conditions and facilities. With your support, however, we can put some smiles in the face of the community.
