In a detailed statement shared on social media, the Minister expressed disappointment over what he described as “wild allegations” that have attracted significant public attention. He explained that although he initially chose not to respond, the volume of messages and inquiries he received compelled him to set the record straight.
Addressing the issue, Lawyer Lwanga explained that upon receiving a letter requesting details on the school feeding programme, he immediately took steps to ensure transparency. He noted that on Thursday, in the presence of Hon. Rashid Pelpuo, Hon. Godfred Jasaw, the Regional Chairman, and others, he brought the matter to the attention of the President. The President, according to him, assured that the situation would be investigated.
He further indicated that on Friday, 16th May, he convened a meeting with all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) with Hon. Beyuo in attendance. During this meeting, the Regional School Feeding Coordinator was invited to provide further explanation, given her direct engagement with the National Coordinator and her office.
The Minister strongly denied the allegation that he retained 30% of the school feeding slots, emphasizing that he has never had any conversation with the National Coordinator of the programme, nor has he taken any such action.
He criticized the MP’s approach, stating that as a fellow public official, it would have been appropriate for Hon. Sukparu to seek clarification or verification from him or other key individuals before making accusations on social media. “As an MP, it was only proper to call me or any of the persons you are now accusing to verify or seek an explanation,” he said.
Lawyer Lwanga also cautioned against the use of social media for matters of such sensitivity, stressing that platforms like these are not the place for resolving complex administrative issues. He concluded by expressing hope that his response would restore calm and bring a more responsible tone to the conversation.
“I hope this brings back some form of sanity in the discussion,” he said. “Let’s endeavor not to put out false or misleading information, especially when it concerns others.”
