Nurses of Upper West Regional Hospital have chosen to go on with their normal duties today, 9th June 2025 despite directives issued by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwifery Association (GNMA) to go on strike.
However, Checks at the Emergency Unit of the Wa Municipal Hospital revealed Otherwise, Nurses were not on duty and offices were closed with red indicators (ropes) tied on metal gates and pipes.

Some patients at the Municipal Hospital were left stranded and were compelled to move to the Upper West Regional Hospital and other private facilities for health services.
on the 5th Day of June 2025, A High Court Injunction was issued by the Accra Court of Justice, Industrial Labour Division Preventing Nurses from undertaking a strike action, this was after the labor commission took the issue to Court.
The injunction, bearing suit number JL/0086/2025, is valid for ten (10) days from the date of issue. The court has further ordered that the application may be repeated on notice to the respondent should the need arise.
This development follows growing tensions regarding labour relations in the health sector. The NLC, as the plaintiff in the case, is tasked with mediating and resolving industrial disputes to ensure industrial peace and harmony in Ghana.
The GRNMA, listed as the defendant, represents a significant portion of Ghana’s healthcare workforce. The injunction’s implications for ongoing negotiations or potential industrial actions by nurses and midwives remain to be seen.
