The Chief of Douri , Naa Blintoh Taasung Abdulai has asked the PID Unit of the Ghana Police Service operating from Douri to leave the area following the shooting of a resident , Haruna Abdul Rashid

Haruna Rashid a resident of Douri was reportedly shot by a member of the PID unit following a confrontation with the PID unit member while he was riding to work . Whiles he was unarmed , the not in uniform security officer pulled a pistol and shot him. He is currently receiving treatment at the Wa Regional Hospital

The Chief gave this directive following a visit by the Professional Standards Bureau of the Ghana Police Service to give assurance of effective actions that will bring justice to the matter.

Chief Inspector Ali , The Upper West Regional Director- for the Police Professional Standards Bureau gave assurances that the case will be investigated and justice will prevail in accordance with the laws of Ghana and the Police Service , saying that the IGP and Regional Police Commander both have interest in investigating the case

However the Chief, noted that the Presence of the Unit is causing more harm than good , considering the actions that have lead to the loss of life and injuries.

He recounted that two of his subjects have been shot by some members of the PID units leading to deaths .

“A resident was shot a year ago, and many bad things have occurred and we have nothing to say , but the Police staying within my jurisdiction, should leave this area and go back to the Police Headquarters, We were of the view that your Presence would help maintain peace in the area.

He also lamented that , the commander of the PID Unit have failed to show up at his upon assuming duties – “ the old commander came to tell me he has been transferred and ever since the new commander came , he has never stepped foot here in my palace even to greet me and my elders – Naa Abdulai

The Chief however, noted he appreciates the work of the Ghana Police Service who have another post duty in Douri, explaining that Officers at the duty Post can continue their work while the PID Unit leave the community to a different area.

Some Youth have accused the PID Unit members of being involved in the distribution and sale of Tramadol and other illicit drugs in the area , backing the Chiefs directive to kick them out of the residence they occupy currently in Douri .

The Chief and his people have further called for swift investigation into the incident , to bring justice to the perpetrators of the attack on Haruna Rashid
