In other Agriculture news from the Sissala East Municipality of Upper West Region, The Paramount Chief of Tumu Traditional Area, Kuoro Richard Kanton has issued a directive to regulate price of smize in the Area.

In his directive documented, Kuoro Kanton instructed that a bag of Maize shouldn’t be sold Below Ghc500 According to a Report received from Sissala Radio in Tumu on Wednesday, 9th July 2025.

The Tumu traditional council has directed that effective Tuesday 8th July, 2025, a 100kg bag of maize must not be sold less than GHC500.00. This resulted from a public out cry of the recent sharp decline of maize prices in the wake of high rising prices of farm inputs in the area.

Statement Below:

MAIZE PRICE! MAIZE PRICE! MAIZE PRICE!

It is a known fact that maize produced in Sissala land is the most qualitative in Ghana, and one of the highest quality maize in the world market. Recently, the price of this highly demanded maize from Sissala land dropped sharply from GH¢ 550.00 to GH¢ 400.00. This has left maize farmers in the region and Sissala land very stranded and making life unbearable for households, and it is sure to worsen in the coming season if this trend continues. Traditional authorities have engaged some of the buyers like WARC and others on this situation.

It is therefore announced for the information of farmers in Tumu Traditional Area, Tumu Municipality, and Sissala land, and the general public that the minimum price of 100kg bag of maize starting from 8th July, 2025 is GH¢ 500.00. Farmers must not sell to any buyer (whether individual or company), who buys below this price.

Thank you
