Building has become a necessity in the North Western Part of Ghana in which we find ourselves.

Despite the hikes in prices of cement, one cannot compare it with the ballooning cost involved in roofing even a single room in Upper West Region.

To roof a single room, one needs not less than 20 pieces of 2 by 6 Wood and two packets of roofing sheets, this can cost averagely Ghc3000 in Some Parts of Savannah Region to achieve but not in Upper West. Currently roofing sheets are as high as Ghc1,200 per packet despite drop in value of the dollar.

In Upper West Region, you need at least Ghc6000 to carryout same task.

A piece of 2 by 6 Wood for roofing costs Ghc145 Cedis in Wa, Ghc170 in Jirapa whilst same wood costs Ghc40 in Damongo.

It’s cost 80 in Bole and Ghc60 in Banda Nkwanta, Tinga per sources within the area.

Several houses have been left unattended to at roofing levels in Upper West Region, sabotaging development processes in the Region.

The Ghana Statistical Service has identified Upper West Region as one of the Regions with very high inflation, drawing closer to 40%.
