Statement by Mr. Yussif Baba

The 15-member Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force, formed by Upper West Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozuing, seems to be quiet lately. Given their mandate to tackle illicit drug use, identify, arrest, prosecute, and rehabilitate users, as well as unite communities against drug abuse, we’d expect more visibility. Perhaps they’re working behind the scenes, but an update on their progress would be welcome. The task force, chaired by Upper West Regional Police Commander DCOP Darko Offei Lomotey, was inaugurated in May 2025 with ambitious goals, including reducing drug abuse and promoting a culture that stigmatizes drug use. Let’s hope they’re making strides in achieving these objectives.
