The Hamile youth have taken matters into their own hands, citing the state security’s inability to protect the community. A recent incident involved Mr. Morris, an immigration officer, who allegedly collaborated with Burkinabé army personnel to arrest a native of Hamile wanted by the Burkinabé government, and the operation was conducted without regard for local laws and regulations.

According to reports, the officer led a vehicle across the border around 9-10 pm, violating Ghana’s border closure regulations after 6 pm, unless in cases of emergency. After the suspect’s wife, who had travelled from Abidjan for a marriage ceremony, visited someone in Nandom, she was kidnapped by the alleged army personnel on the Nandom road. Locals attempted to intervene, but the alleged army men threatened them with firearms.
The youth claim the officer has compromised Ghana’s sovereignty and security by disregarding local laws and collaborating with Burkinabé forces, especially given the current security situation in Burkina Faso.
