Wa Metropolis, Converted from Municipality Status alongside Ho, Sunyani and others in 2024 has improved significantly in Economic Growth with several youth aged between age 15-23 owning significant sums of monies that could translate to Business Capital.

Upper West Media Team in August Conducted a Basic Research in the Wa Metropolis where we discovered that several young individuals had up to Gh¢3,000 on them which they converted into Gadgets and Machines.

These gadgets, Machines however were used for social purposes including Tour and Graphic Communication.

Some Youth Owned Smart Phones including Tecno, Itel and iPhone Brands with a Market value of Averagely Gh¢3,000. Most of these individuals with Mobile Phones were found to be Girls.

On the Other Hand, Several Boys in the Youthful Ages owned slightly used Motorbikes mostly Luojia, Royal Brands valued averagely at Gh¢4,000 per some mechanics we interacted with.

We also discovered that these Youth were able to acquire such gadgets and bikes with support from Parents and sexual partners.

On the side of the Girls, some had to engage in multiple sexual relationships with men to be able to raise significant amount of money to buy a smart phone.

On the Side of Boys, some resorted to Parents, Borrowing, Stealing to acquire either gadgets including phones or Motorbikes.

Analysis

These gadgets could be converted into cash to support these Youth in learning a skill including fashion design, cosmetology, Weaving etc but due to social stigma, these vulnerable girls resort to extravagant lifestyles.

On the side of Boys, those bikes could be converted to cash to help them learn a skill including plumbing, mechanical works, construction skills, carpentry at a nearby apprentice shop.

Some fashion designers(0248017984) charge Ghc1,000 excluding supporting logistics to enroll new entrants in fashion education with Wa.

In Ghana, youth are defined as individuals between the ages of 15 and 35 years old, as per the country’s National Youth Policy and its alignment with the African Youth Charter. This age range is used by official bodies like the National Youth Authority and the Ghana Statistical Services for policy, data collection, and reports.
