The Upper West Regional Minister, Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing has advocated against the use of Percentages to describe Tariff Hikes for consumers of electricity, Water services in the Upper West Region and beyond indicating it creates uncertainty for consumers in their decisions.
Speaking during a program held at Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing gave instances where percentages were ambiguous to consumers triggering misunderstandings.
“… It’s not all of us who know percentages, we thought that you would review it to monetary terms, those of us here, if you say I have paid 100%, 100% of one cedi is 1 Cedi so Ghc2 Cedis would look reasonable but hearing 100% May look Huge, that’s my thinking, that’s what I thought the presentation should have been, we are not interested in what you’re going to fix, we are interested in how much we are going to pay. If what we are going to pay is minimal, it doesn’t affect us too much we will pay..”
He threw a question to the PURC
“If I Ghc5 for x supply of electricity or water, with the increase you are proposing, what will I pay on X Supply?”.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission is proposing an increase in Electricity Tarrifs and Water Bills as Recommended by the IMF.
