The name change reflect government’s promise during the campaign season to change the names of these universities in order to make them competitive. However, there are other concerns that the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University University (DHLTU) has not been changed to Wa technical University. several Individuals indicated that the name change would have made the University marketable, however there are some reasons why the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University may not be changed:
- He was a former president and the government will want to Honor him with that prestigious name tag on the university. He was the only president of the third Republic of Ghana.
- There are few petitions against his name on the university. The major call was for the Dr. title to be removed according to a university lecturer Justice Okyere, there were no calls for the entire name to be removed.
- Government has not spelled out that it will it will take off the Name Dr Hilla Limann from the Name of then Wa Polytechnic. It wasn’t clearly spelled out in the campaign promise of the NDC.
- On cultural grounds the current president will have it difficult taking off the name of Dr Hilla Limann from the University, it will go against his tradition based on the traditional rapport between Sissala and Gonjas.
