Residents of Sagu, a community in the Wa Municipality took the opportunity of this year’s Sagu Yipaala Homecoming 2026 to voice pressing development needs, urging authorities to extend electricity services to newly developed areas and establish a community health centre.
During the event, Mr. Victor Mombu, a prominent community member, highlighted critical challenges impacting the community. He noted that despite ongoing expansion efforts, several sections of Sagu remain without access to electricity, hampering livelihoods, education, and small-scale economic activities. “Many residents are still living in darkness, which affects their daily lives and opportunities for growth,” Mr. Mombu remarked.
He further emphasized the absence of a dedicated health facility in Sagu, explaining that residents are often forced to travel long distances to access basic healthcare services. This situation poses significant risks, especially to pregnant women, children, and the elderly. “The lack of a health centre compromises the well-being of our people and hampers timely medical intervention,” he stated. Mr. Mombu appealed to the Wa Municipal Assembly and relevant stakeholders to prioritize Sagu in future development plans, stressing that improved infrastructure and healthcare facilities would markedly enhance residents’ quality of life.
Madam Nasia, a midwife at the Bamahu Health Centre, addressing the community, urged residents to pay close attention to theri personal hygiene and to seek regular medical check-ups. She underscored that good hygiene practices and early medical intervention are essential in preventing diseases and promoting overall health within the community.
The community’s appeals underscore the urgent need for infrastructural development and accessible healthcare services in Sagu, with residents hopeful that these issues will be prioritized in upcoming development agendas.
