About Eight fuel stations are currently without fuel in the Sissala West District capital Gwollu, today 7th January 2026.

The development has sparked concern among business owners and other stakeholders within Gwollu and it’s Neighboring Townships that depend on fuel to carry out their daily Activities.

Several individuals have called for shift interventions Curb the menace and reduce fuel shortage within the District.

Meanwhile some Stakeholders including Mr. Songsore Mulumba, the Nadowli-Kaleo District Director of Center for National Culture has stated that the development is as a result of excessive smuggling of Fuel to Neighboring Burkina Faso for trading mostly as a result of the reduced price of fuel compared to prices in Burkina Faso, a country close to the Ghanaian border.

The District Chief Executive, Mr. Abudu Fuseini Gbene has been called upon to ban the sue of Gallons popularly known as Kuffour Gallons for purchase of fuel in the Area tagging them as logistics for the excessive smuggling.

There are more fuel stations in Gwollu than the number of vehicles. Why because they smuggle a lot of fuel to Burkina Faso
From the period of 2023 – 2025 when fuel prices were high, most of these stations were out of business because Fuel from Burkina Faso was way cheaper than Ghana therefore collapsing the many Petrol Stations in Gwollu. Now that the government has brought down the prices of fuel, it means that they are back to business because fuel in Ghana is now cheaper than Burkina Faso
There’s a lot of greed in border towns with few people benefiting unduly through smuggling. This is a perfected cabal because there’s the presence of both the Police & Immigration Service in Gwollu.
I’ve seen in broad daylight and night the activities of these criminals in the past.
It’s a shame.
