The newly elected President of the Tumu College of Education (TUCE) Alumni Association, Mr. Mumuni Yahaya, has announced an ambitious five-point agenda to revitalise the association, headlined by the creation of a digital database for all members dating back to 1984.

Speaking at the “Alumni Convention ’25” held on January 3, 2026, at the College Auditorium, Mr. Yahaya emphasized the need for a structured connection between the institution and its former students. He noted that his election was a result of a consensus, as other contenders stepped down in his favor, leading to him going unopposed.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Yahaya detailed a roadmap designed to move the association into a new era of digital engagement and physical presence: They Include the creation of a central registry for all alumni members from the 1984 batch to the present day, Leveraging WhatsApp communities to bridge the gap between alumni members regardless of their geographical location.

The others include, to Implement strategies to make the association’s activities more visible to the public and stakeholders, Initiating programs to link donors and key stakeholders to specific projects for the college’s development and the Establishment of a permanent, functional office on campus staffed by past students serving their National Service.

The outgoing President, Mr. Muftau-Kola Fasasi, whose team was elected on January 4, 2020, delivered a poignant farewell address reflecting on a tenure marked by both foundational growth and significant loss. Mr. Fasasi highlighted that his administration inherited no blueprint but successfully established a functioning constitution to guide future executives. He detailed key milestones achieved between 2020 and 2024, including the official registration of the alumni on July 14, 2020, the creation of a secretariat, and the development of an official logo and letterhead.

The convention took a somber turn as the outgoing President called for a minute of silence to honor two prominent figures lost during his tenure: a former student posted to the alumni office who died in a motor accident, and the late College Principal, Prof. Mumin Selanwia.

The association officially recognized the service of the outgoing executive committee and ushered in the new leadership team.
