Farmers in Jenkore, a farming community within the Manwe Electoral Area of the Wa East District of the Upper West Region of Ghana , are voicing serious concerns over the escalating costs of agricultural inputs and the persistent low prices for their produce. The farmers say these challenges are further exacerbating their economic hardships, threatening their livelihoods and community stability.
In an interview with Info News, Abdulai Idris, a local farmer, highlighted that the soaring prices of fertilizers, seeds, and other farming essentials are making it increasingly difficult for farmers to sustain their operations. He expressed worry that the current trend is undermining their efforts and hindering the growth of agriculture in the area.
Issahaku Yakubu, another resident and farmer, acknowledged that the community recorded good yields last year. However, he pointed out that the low market prices for their produce have failed to translate into improved income for farmers. Yakubu appealed to the government for intervention, urging authorities to implement measures that can stabilize farmgate prices and provide relief for struggling farmers.
The community’s farmers are calling for urgent attention and support from the government of Ghana to address these pressing issues, emphasizing the need for policies that can balance input costs with fair pricing of farm produce to ensure the sustainability of their livelihoods.
