The Gyili community in the Nadowli/Kaleo District of the Upper West Region has voiced urgent concerns over the deteriorating state of its local school, calling for immediate improvements in infrastructure to enhance learning conditions. Residents assert that the school currently lacks essential facilities, including adequate teachers’ accommodation and a functional ICT laboratory, which are critical for fostering a conducive educational environment.

During a community durbar, Community Youth Leader Abraham Suglo highlighted the impact of inadequate facilities on student attendance and motivation. “The absence of proper teachers’ accommodation discourages teachers from staying, which directly affects student attendance and diminishes their interest in education,” Suglo stated.

The community’s chief, Naa Mustapha Badienaa II, echoed these concerns, emphasizing that the lack of an ICT laboratory deprives pupils of access to modern, internet-based learning resources. “Without an ICT lab, our children are at a disadvantage in acquiring the digital skills necessary for today’s competitive world,” he noted.

Prominent national politician Bernard Mornah, a former PNC National Chairman, urged the youth to refocus their energies from illegal mining activities (galamsey) to education. “Galamsey is a temporary pursuit, but the benefits of education are lifelong and transformative,” Mornah emphasized.

In a message delivered on behalf of the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Amin Nuhu underscored the vital link between quality education and community development. He assured that the district authorities are committed to addressing these infrastructural deficiencies to improve educational access and quality for the Gyili community.
