There is a Competitive Demand for the Status of Sissala South District to be established in the Upper West Region.

This demand is being made by Two Different Communities Within two different Districts in the Region, the communities are Wallembelle in Sissala East Municipality and Funsi in Wa East District.

On the 26th of April 2024, South Sissala Unity For Development, A Pressure Group in Funsi within the Wa East District Called for Funsi to be Made the Capital of Sissala South District if their plea is heard for Funsi and it’s Neighboring communities to be taken out of the Wa East District.

According to the Group which engage journalists including Upper West Media Team on drawbacks of Funsi Traditional Area, they indicated that the establishment of Sissala South District with Funsi as the Capital will spearhead development in the Area.

Almost Two Years along the Line, the Wallembelle Traditional Area has also called for the Establishment of Sissala South District with Wallembelle as Capital. A Petition in that Regard was submitted to Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Upper West Regional Minister on Monday, 19th January 2026.

The history regarding the establishment of the Sisaala South District was presented by Mr. Mumuni Yahaya on behalf of the Paramount Chief of the Walembelelle Traditional Area.
