A prominent legal practitioner and National Democratic Congress (NDC) financier in Wa East, Lawyer Abu Juan Jagiara, has officially declared his intention to contest the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Speaking to the news teams on Saturday, February 7, 2026, during a visit to his hometown Funsi, the Senior Partner at Sory & Partners @ Law expressed high confidence in his potential bid, describing his chances of entering the race as nearly certain.
“It looks almost 90 percent or over 90 percent that we are likely to contest,” Lawyer Abu Juan stated. “For the meantime, we are still studying the grounds and talking to people to see whether the time is right, but the feedback so far gives me the belief that the time is now.”
The declaration took place during the commissioning of a newly procured NDC campaign office in Funsi, a facility Lawyer Abu Juan provided to bolster the party’s grassroots operations.
For many in the district, the move is seen as a natural progression of his long-standing philanthropic efforts. The lawyer noted that he has already been performing the “duties of a parliamentarian” through private initiatives, including: Education, Health, and providing access to clean water for rural communities.
“Contesting and winning will give me a better chance of enhancing what I have already been doing for the people,” he explained.
Central to his political vision is a robust strategy to tackle the economic hardships facing Wa East. Lawyer Abu Juan identified poverty as the most significant hurdle for his constituents. To combat this, he proposed a multi-pronged approach, Job Creation, Building on his record of facilitating employment for local youth, Seed Capital, Lobbying for funds to empower farmers, women’s groups, and small business owners, and implementing dry season farming initiatives to ensure food security and consistent income for families throughout the year.
The upcoming primary sets up an intriguing dynamic within the Wa East NDC. Lawyer Abu Juan’s primary contender will be the incumbent Member of Parliament, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasew.
Despite the looming political contest, Mr. Jagiara maintained a tone of professional respect, noting that he and the sitting MP remain friends. Notably, Lawyer Abu Juan served as a key financier for several projects executed by Dr. Jasew during the 2024 general elections.
“We are still friends,” he hinted, suggesting that while the race may be competitive, his focus remains on a “different type of representation” for the people of Wa East.
As the NDC prepares to open nominations for its parliamentary primaries, all eyes will be on Funsi to see if Lawyer Abu Juan makes the final 10% jump to formalize his candidacy.
The political landscape in the Wa East Constituency is reaching a boiling point, characterized by a high-stakes “clash of titans” within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The primary dynamic is the shift from collaboration to competition. For years, Lawyer Abu Juan was the “silent engine” the financier and legal advisor behind many of the projects executed by the current MP, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasew.
Abu Juan is now pivoting from “supporting the visionary” to “being the visionary.” His argument is that if he could do so much as a private citizen, his impact as an MP would be exponentially greater.
Dr. Jasew remains a formidable opponent with a strong track record and deep roots in the constituency. His supporters often point to his experience in the 8th and 9th Parliaments and his academic weight in agricultural policy as essential for the constituency.
