At a charged press conference on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the Concerned Youth of Lassia-Tuolu and surrounding communities raised the alarm over what they describe as a deteriorating security situation and a “troubling web” of judicial interference in the District.

The group, representing the Birifor people, expressed deep sorrow and frustration over the systematic targeting and murder of their youths, alleging that these crimes are being committed with “impunity” by non-Birifor groups.

The youth highlighted several instances of violence, most notably the June 2024 hostilities that claimed three lives and a more recent attack in October 2025.

The focal point of the community’s grief, however, remains the November 23, 2025, kidnapping and brutal murder of two brothers, Mr Kwame Gah John and Mr Dondomo Moses, in Kandeu.

According to the group, a suspect in police custody reportedly confessed to the crime and named accomplices, but the bodies of the two brothers have yet to be recovered.

“We may not know the intricacies of the law and prosecutions, but we wonder how investigations could be deemed ‘complete’ when the murder suspects are still roaming about freely on the streets!” the group stated.
