The Upper West Regional Police Command on March 5, 2026, received the Member of Parliament for Wa West District, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toubu, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Wullo, during a courtesy call on the Command.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed and evaluated the security situation in Wa West District and associated ongoing Police operational strategies. The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Francis Yiribaare, briefed him on the status of Police investigations into some incidents recorded in the District over the past two years, and indicated that while some of the cases are currently before the courts, others remain under investigation. He also highlighted that, criminal activity in the district is generally low due to security measures put in place working with all stakeholders. He however noted that occasional tensions largely fueled by a longstanding tribal related feuds continue to pose concern since often the dynamics leads to usual generalization of crimes along tribal and group lines rather than focusing on individual criminal responsibility, exacerbating community mistrust and tensions in the district.

At the end of the engagement, the two sides reaffirmed commitment to strengthen collaboration, coordination and to further work closely with other relevant stakeholders including traditional authorities and the youth to resolve the deep rooted ethnic tensions and enhance peace, security and development in the district.
