There are several senior High Schools in the Upper West Region but these are the oldest established more than 40 to 50 Years ago.
Kanton Senior High School was established in 1962 as Kanton Teacher Training College to train teachers for the primary schools. In 1972 college education was substituted with secondary education. The Teacher Training College trained fourteen badges of teachers.
The school is one of the Kwame Nkrumah trust schools built around the country in the early 1960s. The school is a boarding school.
Courses offered are General Arts, Business, Science, Visual Art, Home Economics.
Nandom SHS: Its an All boys Catholic School formerly called St. Michael’s Boys SHS, it was established in 1968 by Fathers of Immaculates Conception, (FIC), Courses offered, General Science, Arts, Business.
Lawra Senior High School.
Lawra Senior High is one of the senior high schools in Lawra Municipality of Upper West Region , it was established in 1968. Lawra SHS is mixed School and Offers courses Including Science, Arts, Business and Home Economics.
Wa SHS is another old school, it Launched its 50th Anniversary in 2022, a means of uniting all Present and past Students for collective Development. The School was formerly Wa College in early 1970’s. Courses offered, Arts, Visual Art, Business, General Science.
Wa Senior High Technical School
The school was established as a community middle day school in the 1950s. Progressively, the school became a junior secondary school in 1978 and later transformed into a community secondary technical school in 1982. It was formally commissioned as a community day secondary technical school on 30 March 1983.
Kaleo Senior High Technical School
The school was established in 1963 as a middle school and in 1974 converted into a Junior High School. In 1991, it was further converted into a Senior Secondary. Courses offered are Agric, Technical, Home Economics, General Arts, General Science.
Lastly, Jirapa Girls SHS of Assisi. Saint Francis of Assisi Girls’ Secondary School is the only girls’ secondary school located in Jirapa in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Established in 1969.
