There has been hikes in lorry fares within the Upper West Region, most especially Wa. Checks from the GPRTU station in Wa Market Revealed that To Travel from Wa to Techiman, one needs Ghc110 whilst Fare from Wa to Kumasi is Ghc140 currently, from Ghc150.
Fares went up as a result of fuel prices and prices of spare parts, Traveling from Wa to Kumasi was Ghc120 in Mid 2022 but went up slightly due to hikes in fuel prices and the Dollar.
Currently, the Dollar trades at Ghc11.70 to a Dollar whilst price of Patrol is a little above Ghc13 at Goil with Diesel selling slightly below Patrol. Diesel Price has dropped by over 5%.
Checks in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region Revealed that, to travel from Bolgatanga to Kumasi which is over 100 km far compared to Wa -Kumasi, one Needs Ghc140 to purchase a ticket.
Distance from Bolgatanga to Kumasi is 540.4 km(9 hr 40 min) whilst Distance from Wa to Kumasi is 451 Kilometers(9 hr 7 min) This means Bolgatanga has a Kilometer distance difference of 89km, almost 100km compared with Wa-Kumasi yet fares are pegged at Ghc140 to Kumasi from Bolga.
