Sissala East District in the Upper West region of Ghana will in the coming days be elevated into a municipality status.
At a rally and being the first visit of the sitting president since he took the reigns from the NDC Mahama led government in last year December general election. The president and his entourage were welcomed by a mammoth crowd comprising of party faithfuls; who were bused from far and near communities,school children , chiefs,youth and old despite waiting for more than four hours as slated for the event.
The news of the President’s visit was not taken seriously by the people, following former President Mahama’s refusal to honor invitations for their festivals without any justifiable reasons. This phenomenon was alleged to have even made voters changed their voting pattern from NDC to NPP and thus resulting in the NPP winning the parliamentary seat in the District for the first time.
The President and his entourage first point of call was at the Tumu Kuoro’s palace ,where they exchanged pleasantries with the chief Kuoro Richard Babini Kenton IV and his elders and also had a close door meeting with the chief. Though darkness had marred the beauty of the rally as at the time they arrived. It was all Euphoria amidst joy and happiness when the minister of local government and rural development Hon.Hajia Alima Mahama who doubles as Mp for Nalerigu-Gambaga constituency in the Norther Region mounted the podium at a rally. She amongst her presentation revealed that the package for the Districts immense contribution towards the NPP’S 2016 general victory will soon be unfolded and thus nothing less the much desired elevation of the District into a municipality status.
The crowd in amusement applauded uncontrollably as prior to the the president’s visit there was a speculation on the social media on names of only two Districts namely Jirapa and Lawra to be elevated into municipality status without Sissala East District of which incontrovertibly is the second largest District following the Region Capital Wa municipal.
The minster for gender and social protection ,Hon.Otiko Afisah Adjaba admonished on both the educated and uneducated not run down south in search of non-existent jobs but rather stay and make good use of skills training opportunities to be rolled out by her ministry very soon.
The President reiterated his government’s commitment to making the flagship programme dabbed ” free Senior High School”a reality and not a mere political gimmick as touted by the opposition parties prior to the general elections. He ended by saying the people should brace themselves for more opportunities in the coming days.
