The Municipal Chief Executive Officer of the Wa Municipal Assembly,honourable Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Moomin has confirmed to Sungmaale 90.5fm the on-going repairs and maintenance of the 2,150 streetlights in the municipality will cost the Assembly Ghc196,000.00.
He went further to state that,funding for the project was not from the Assembly coffers but rather from central government contrary to claims that some people wants to chop the Municipal Assembly monies.
He explained that the assembly received proposals from three different companies notably Prefos company whose quotation of Ghc 531,000.00 was considered very high.
Another company whose name the Mce could not easily recollect as the time of going to press also brought a Ghc 267,000.00 proposal whereas a local electrical contractor whose name was only given as Salford submitted according to the Mce a reasonable Ghc196,000.00 was subsequently awarded the project .
“Due Assembly procedures were followed in awarding the project as members of the assembly confirm ” amidst the rumours in town that it never went through the assembly.
In a related development,he said the fibre streetlights poles on the JJ RAWLINGS HIGH STREET will be replaced with metal ones as the fibre ones are not strong and easily breaks. He however admonish the assembly members to eschew their inter and intra party conflicts and work for the development of the municipality.
