Wa Municipal Provides Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence

Hon. Tahiru Issahaku Moomin- the Wa Municipal Chief Executive commissioned the new “ACTIONAID GHANA” building adjacent to the Wa. Wa Model Junior High School (JHS) block.

The Completed Abode for Victims of Domestic Violence.

The motive for this initiative is to protect and empower female victims of domestic violence in the Wa Municipality in general.

The global theme for 2019 International Women’s Day is “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovates for Change”

When we the society puts innovation and skills to women and girls because for women and girls is the heart of efforts to achieving gender equality in the Wa Municipality and globally.

And when women and girls are trained and equipped burden and care are been reduce, And also creat the awareness about gender inequality in our various communities within the Wa Municipality and in other to achieve this goal we need to create equal opportunities for both WOMEN’S and Girl’s to undertaken paid jobs, enhance their education and also effectively participates in leadership roles and responsibilities and decision making at the local, regional and at the national level.

The said facility will provide services in the Wa Municipality to shelter for rescuing victims of abuse, counselling and to provide training for victimize WOMEN’S and Girl’s for reintegration in the Wa Municipality and beyond.

Under the domestic violence Act the state is enjoin by law to provide safe space for victims WOMEN’S and Girl’s across all districts in Ghana.

The facility combines together with an office space, counselling room, conference room, two bedrooms that can accommodate eight (8) client’s as well as a master’s bedrooms. It also have a kitchen and a storeroom, two set of urinals and water closets by separate uses of visitors and clients those that will be accommodated at the centre. It’s also has a mechanized borehole which powered by electricity connectivity to the centre. There’sa security post tobe man day and night security to be deployed by the Municipal Assembly.
