Twenty-nine students of the Tumu Senior High Technical School who were arrested by the police in Tumu in connection with last week’s disturbances have been transferred to the Upper West Regional police headquarters in Wa to face criminal charges.

The number includes six other students who were picked up after an earlier swoop that led to the arrest of twenty-three persons suspected to have masterminded the riot that led to the destruction of several properties at the school.
The Sissala East Municipal Police commander, ASP Stephen Abanga, in an interview with Citi News said fifteen other suspects who played various roles in the disturbances are still on the run.

“So far, we have gotten twenty-nine [students]. We have handed the docket to the regional CID for prosecution. There are fifteen other names which were mentioned but we haven’t gotten them yet, so we are looking for them”.
Meanwhile, Citi News sources at the Upper West Regional CID office indicate that the suspects are being prepared to appear before the Wa Circuit Court tomorrow.

The students reportedly started the protest by cutting off electricity to the school at about 11:30 pm and later ransacked teachers bungalows and other properties of the school on May 23.
