We the Concern Youth of Tumu and also law abiding citizens of Ghana, Tumu town widely known for its peaceful and hospitable nature has attracted diverse people in the past. On this score, we sadly wish to bring to your attention the bizarre activities of miscreants who by the influence of drugs (tramadol and wee) and alcohol who hijack and stab, ransack, steal belongings of unsuspecting people. These miscreants or misfits not only unleash attacks on their victims but also causes unlawful disruptions to organized events even uninvited sometimes.
We are gravely aggrieved for the nasty and anti-hospital activities perpetrated by miscreants or social misfits in the Tumu Township which has lingered on for some time now.
On Friday 26th July, 2019 at around 1:30 am early dawn, one Mr. Yamose Katchu allegedly the assailant also popularly known as “GOODEY” took the laws of Ghana, the country of our birth into his own hands and subjected one of our brother and friend to gruesome murder by allegedly piercing a jack knife into his left chest who was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner at the Tumu Municipal Hospital on arrival. The deceased’s crime was simply going to entertain himself at the Tumu Community Centre where there was a jams (dance). The deceased who was a tiller left behind a wife, a kid, and siblings as dependents
With all due respect, isn’t this an infringement on his right to move within the country and also right to live?
The above scenario depicts the Latest but a very painful handy work of one of these miscreants that resulted in the ghastly and gruesome death of a very young and energetic guy known as Mr. Atongo Seidu Francis a.k.a “ALAGBE” as he is affectionately known by his peers in the municipality.
The sudden wake-up to the news of this gentleman’s gruesome murder has brought about fear and panic in Tumu town as who could be the next victim to the handy work of any of these miscreants who freely sit around their wee smoking ghettoes and also goes scot free anytime they are arrested by the police for crimes reported. With this, we the youth think, a dark future awaits us if urgent precautionary measures are not put in place to curb this menace of lawlessness in the Tumu Municipality. With all due respect, there is growing tension among the youth following the lackadaisical response of stakeholders especially the Municipal Police Service. We wish to state categorically that, we are fed – up and no longer ready to accommodate the usual excuses by the Municipal commander saying big people (politicians and chiefs, etc.) usually beg him to drop cases or release culprits. The Police raided the various ghettoes and effected arrest but let’s ask these questions:
How many of those arrested possessing and smoking indian hemp (wee) were prosecuted?
Who intervened to get culprits released?
Why would police barge to pressure from so-called big people?
Who will take care of the deceased’s dependents?
Are we in Tumu town less Ghanaians than others in different towns?
We wish the Municipal Police command would ponder over these questions and provide answers if any.
The above grievance mentioned does not insinuate a lack of confidence for stakeholders especially, the Municipal Police but rather a wake-up call to all stakeholders especially the security apparatus in the Municipality.
We wish to see a cleansing exercise by the security apparatus that is the Police and military detachment in Tumu where all ghettoes will be razed down, some identifiable miscreants arrested and hence sanity been restored while a thorough investigation on the gruesome murder of Mr. Francis continues with all urgency.
On this note, we pledge our unflinching support to the Municipal security apparatus and would also avail ourselves for any collaboration that will help unravel this murder case when invited.
We wish to state that, in one week time, should we not hear any positive response from stakeholders; all well-meaning people especially the youth will not hesitate to hit the principal streets to drum home their concerns. This peaceful demonstration would be done within the confines of the laws of the country. We wish to have a positive response from stakeholders especially the security apparatus. We shall keenly monitor how your outfit, the Municipal Police, stake holders and all other security agencies will unravel this heinous issue.
The law abiding youth in Tumu count on your cooperation.
