Soldiers Stormed a funeral ground in Wa-Jangbeyiri
Military men as part of efforts to enforce the President’s ban on gatherings stormed a funeral ground in Jangbeyiri in the Wa Municipality on 20th March 2020.
This was after the Deputy Regional Commander of Upper West Police Peter Ndekugri visited the Funeral ground of a notable businessman popularly called One-Plug.
According to eyewitnesses, a mentally unstable man attempted to physically assault the police commander at the funeral ground and as a result compelled the commander to act defensively by resisting the forceful push by the attacker. Moments after the Commander Left the environment, military troops stormed the Funeral grounds and allegedly assaulted several people within the funeral ground.
Witnesses confirmed that the number of people at the funeral ground exceeded 25 as recommended by the state.
The President of Ghana earlier in the week declared a state of emergency, instructing that all public gatherings be suspended except with special instances where people not more than 25 could come together.
