The Upper West Region has increased its Coronavirus tally to 17 after seven extra samples tested positive in the Sissala East Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Sissala East, Hon. Karim Nanyua this morning convened an emergency meeting with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Committee, where he broke the news that through routine surveillance and enhanced testing and contact tracing, seven (7) samples from the Municipality confirmed positive of COVID-19 pending the outcome of some of the rest of the samples which are yet to arrive.
All the confirmed cases are natives of the Municipality who travelled in from Accra, Kumasi and Tamale.
Out of this number, four (4) are at the quarantine centre, whereas the other three (3) are to be traced for quarantine. The gender ratio is two (2) is to five (5) ie male – female.
The age for all the affected are youthful.
The Hon. MCE entreated residents to remain calm, vigilante and supportive to these victims whilst practicing all the safety protocols and presidential directives.
He further demanded from the communities to report all strangers and natives who are travelling back to their communities from other areas to the health authorities for proper screening.
All these seven victims are asymptomatic. Members of the committee are still engaging to see how they can bolster the fight against this deadly virus.
The Seven Positive cases have increased the Number of cases from Ten to Seventeen with one recovery.
