Community health nurse assaulted in Sissala East

Community Health Nurse stationed at Tarsor ,a community within the Sissala east municipality was allegedly assaulted on Tuesday 28th July, 2020 in the Community.

Nurses have for some times now, come under attack by some section of the public as they are either robbed off of their personal belongings or beaten with the recent being in Gbal in the Sissala West where some nurses got beaten over covid-19.
The incident has brought anger and dissatisfaction
s among the Ghana Registered Nurses’ and Midwives’ Association of the Sissala East Municipal in the Upper West Region calling for holistic investigation onto the matter to ensure justice is served to the young nurse to serve as deterrent to other person seeking to commit other crimes.
A statement issued and signed by the Chairman of the Association Mr Bentor Francis Donyor noted that,
“the victim narrating the incident to him mentioned that, at about 9:30am on that faithful day, after attending to some patient in the facility, she left to the Electoral Commission registration centre where she was supposed to screen registrants of Covid-19 whiles her other colleague had left for Bichemboi for a program.
According to the victim, she was called upon to attend to patients waiting at the facility, whiles at some few meters to the health centre, she was approach by a young man popularly known in the community as “life man” who was thinking she was delaying and started throwing insults at her, both then exchanged words at each other which eventually led to the man physically assaulting her.
The Association stated “We must commend the Municipal Health Director on this very matter for immediately closing down the facility, and taken away the two vulnerable nurses from that “danger zone” which later followed up with the locking up the attacker who was arrested and granted bail at the Tumu police station.
The association has however recommended the continuous involvement of the association throughout the process of the case including ensuring that, the facility remains closed until justice has being served for the nurses and also institute measures aim at preventing future occurrences of such crime.
