Residents of Kperisi electoral area in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region have described the sod cutting for the construction of a solid waste management plant as a white elephant as the contractor has failed his promised of starting work on the project after the president has cut sod for the project in October,2020.
According to them it was a political capital the president was trying to make and that pushed him to cut the sod on the 9th of October 2020.
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, October 9, 2020, cut a sod for the construction of a solid waste treatment plant at Kperisi, a community in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The facility, which is a public-private partnership between government and the Jospong Group, upon completion will receive, sort, and process waste in the municipality and its environs.
It will also create 75 jobs during construction and over 200 direct and indirect jobs when completed.
According to the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah during the sod cutting ceremony, Wa municipality generates over 500 tones of waste every day.
As at the 20th of December,2020 work is yet to start after almost three months when the sod was cut.
At a visit by Asaase Radio’s Correspondent for Upper West, Muniru Ibrahim to the site, it was observed that nothing has since being done at the site for about almost three months when the president cut sod for the project during his visit to the upper west region.
It was seen that, how the grounds were prepared for the ceremony is still the same at the project site, thought the Executive Chairman had promised to start the project as soon as the president cut the sod.
