Nadowli-Kaleo MP throws a Shocking Question to Minister for Energy

Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, Mr. Anthony Sumah

MP for Nadowli/Kaleo, Hon. Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah writes;

QUESTIONS TO THE MINISTER OF ENERGY ON WHEN SOME COMMUNITIES IN THE NADOWLI KALEO CONSTITUENCY WILL BE CONNECTED TO THE NATIONAL GRID.

On Wednesday, 21st July 2021, I questioned the minister of Energy on the Floor of the House as to when some communities in my constituency will be connected to the National Grid. The communities in question include; Takpo, Charikpong, Nanvilli, Nator, Sankana, Goli, Kuntaali, Gbierung, Banu, Kankanzie, Kpazimuluu, Zomwaakyir, Toyaga, Konkongpari and Nawul.
The minister in his response mentioned that Takpo, Charikpong, Nanvilli, Nator, Sankana and Goli were already connected to the national grid between 2012 and 2016, under the ministry of energy SHEP-4 Rural Electrification Project in the Nadowli/Kaleo District. For the case of the remaining communities i.e, Kuntaali, Gbierung, Banu, Kankanzie, Kpazimuulu, Zomwaakyir, Toyaga and Konkongpari, the minister’s response was that these communities were currently not under any electrification project but indicated that engineering surveys were communities and they will be considered in subsequent electrification projects. The minister also indicated that Nawuli is a work in progress and will be completed by the end of 2021.

In a follow-up question, I pointed to the minister that the communities in question; Takpo, Charikpong, Nanvilli, Nator, Sankana and Goli were only partly connected. The minister in his response admitted that the ministry would have to relook at the definition of “community” to reflect the realities of communities that encompass other satellite communities.

In another follow-up question, I asked the minister on when exactly the next face of rural electrification will commence and whether the eight communities above would be will be considered. The minister in his response stated indicated that he will have to revert to the consultants in order to get the specific details.
