
The Upper West Regional Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a 61-year-old man, Abdul Rahman Inusah, for wielding a gun, that led to the death of a retired lecturer and injured 4 others.
According to the Upper West Regional Commander DCOP Peter Ndekugri Anumbugre, the 61-year-old man told the Police, that he discharged the arms in self-defence.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 17 March 2022 in Wa due to a misunderstanding over a parcel of land.
Some youth from Kabanye, a suburb of Wa had allegedly gone to prevent some construction workers from developing the land, situated on the Wa-Kumasi Highway.
The 61-year-old man, suspected to be the owner of the land, however showed up wielding a pump-action gun and began shooting.
Although the youth managed to escape unhurt, the bullet from the gun hit some passersby, who were plying the route at the time of the incident, injuring 5 persons, including a 64-year-old retired lecturer.
The 5 were rushed to the Wa Municipal Hospital, where, the retired lecturer, Stephen Mane was pronounced dead on arrival.
The 61-year-old man is expected to be arraigned.
