Mr. Ahmed Mustapha is the Upper West Regional Director of NADMO

The Upper West Regional Director of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Ahmed Mustapha has expressed displeasure with service delivery within the Wa Municipal Psychiatrist Hospital, in an interview with Yirimambo Advocacy Team, he explained how his wife nearly lost her life due to negligence of some staff of the hospital.

“I returned from NANDOM this evening, at about 8-9pm on 23rd of April 2022, after taking my bath I went to pray and heard a loud voice, I rushed inside to see my wife on the floor crying, I rushed her to the wa Municipal hospital and to my surprise a nurse told me to go and bring a folder before he will attend to the patient, honestly, i angrily told him to attend to her because it’s emergency but the nurse and the staff insisted I bring it before, I reminded them this is an emergency that needs an immediate attention but they refused so I went and brought the folder yet still my wife was left unattended to. I had no choice then to send her to homeland clinic, a private health facility. The Doctor on duty attended to her without asking those ‘useless’ questions about folder Insah Allah her condition is getting stable at homeland.

Our public health centers need to be re engaged on the need to place emergency issues as Grievous fettle.”

My brother I wish her a speedy recovery.
I don’t understand why in Ghana these things are happening, you will sent a patient on emergency instead of taking care of the patient to safe his/her life first they will rather be demanding for folders or others like cash deposit before treatment especially accident cases with fractures. God forbid what if in the struggle to get the folder or the cash to deposit before treatment and the patient past. Why don’t we always safe the life first. I would like to know whether public health centers can not deliver health care services free in Ghana unlike other countries, people have lost their lives because of some of these attitudes. Anyway some of them entered the service because of money and not with passion to care for the sick so we should not always be surprised of their behaviors.

Seriously we are beginning to see a country where folders and documents are valued than human life under critical urgent needs.the management of this institution need to organize trainings to staff of such unwarranted practices. Yes it is important a folder is opened opened for any patient but can’t care be meted whilst folder documentation goes on. At least that give the patient,s relative some kind of self confidence and encouragement in the institution to deliver urgent medical attention. Some of our medical staff just think that whether they serve well or not , they will be paid. Let us rethink as a nation. For u and I are here bcos of good health.
