
The Late Former Catholic Bishop of the Wa Diocese, Most Rev. Richard Kuuia Baawobr, was appointed a cardinal for the Catholic Church in August 2022.
On May 7, 2016, he was ordained as a Bishop.
Rev. Baawobr was appointed alongside 21 other cardinals who will assume their roles at the Vatican in August 2022.
He was born on June 21, 1959, and ordained as a priest on July 18, 1987.
On 27 November 2022, the Episcopal See of the Diocese of Wa, in accordance with the norms of canon 416, became vacant upon the death of His Eminence Richard Cardınal Kuuia
Baawobr, M.Afr., who, until the sede vacante, was the Bishop of the Diocese.
Upon due consultations, the Vatican directed the College of Consultors of the Diocese of Wa to elect a Diocesan Administrator who shall govern the Diocese ad interim until the appointment of a Diocesan Bishop by the Roman Pontiff.
On, 3rd December 2022, the College of Consultors was convoked for the purpose of electing a Diocesan Administrator for the Diocese. The College of Consultors with respect for the laid norm and procedures elected.

Brief Profile
Fr. Edward B. Tengan is a diocesan priest in Wa diocese. He was among the first group of students of St. Francis Xavier Seminary Wa in 1969. He did his sixth form in ST. Peters, Nkawkaw and proceeded to St. Victor’s for philosophy and Theology. He was ordained priest in 1977 and was made the first chaplain of Nandom Secondary. in 1979 he left Nandom secondary school for further studeis in Louvain Belgium. He was appointed lecturer at St. Victor’s but left after a few years later to pursue doctoral studies in African Studies and Anthropology in the Universty of Birminham, UK. On his return from UK, he went back to to St. Victor’s where he continued to teach philosophy and Anthropology until he was taken back to diocese to be head of the Pastoral Institute from which position he recently retired.
Cardinals rank higher than bishops, so not all bishops are cardinals. But now all cardinals are bishops.
A new Bishop shall be ordained after six months.
