John Dramani Mahama in Upper West Region

The Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has indicated that a major project he premeditated to put in place in the Sissala Land has been abandoned by the NPP government after the first stage had been carried out.

He spoke about the Agricultural Project he intended to put in place to make farming attractive and accessible to people of Sissala West and neighboring communities.

He made the statements at Tumu College of Education in the Sissala East Constituency on Sunday 9th May 2023 during his 2-day tour in the Upper West Region.

..Before I left office in 2016, I cut sod for the farmers service center after we left office this government abandoned the project, the ideas behind the farmers service center was that we were gonna bring tractors, there were going to be 10 tractors in every service center, there was going to be harrows, ploughs, trailers, anything that you need to farm, we were going to provide fertilizer in the service center, there was even going to be a small micro credit center so that farmers who are registered in the center want some little money to do something, they can go and borrow it.The center was supposed to provide farmer services sometimes on credit, if the farmer can’t pay you do it on credit so that when you harvest your crops and sell, you come back and pay.

Unfortunately that project was abandoned and so when NDC comes we are going to revive it, the first sod we cut was at Gwollu, the first farmers service center was supposed to be at Gwollu and so there will be tractors there for those of you who are interested in farming like I am, you’ll go and register as a farmer at the farmers service center, when it’s the farming season, you’ll show your farm, they’ll come and plough it, they will harrow it for you, they will give you improved seeds to plant, they will give you fertilizer and everything and if you have money to pay you pay, and if you don’t have money to pay they record it, after you harvest your Maize or whatever you have planted after you harvest you come back and pay so that the next season you can access the credit again..”
