Earlier this year we had a misunderstanding with a young lady who opted to join a financial Group Popularly Known as Susu we established to help ourselves in times of need.

Each member was supposed to contribute an amount of Ghc10 every two week and we were 20 in number, this meant that in every two week we raised Ghc200 and saved it in an account, the rule was that if anyone loses a loved one, we will give the person Ghc1000, since it’s a bad omen but once you have a new baby you are entitled to Ghc250, this was a criteria to deter people from producing children inconsistently but things failed to hold at a point.

There was this young girl amongst us, very energetic but wasn’t married, she joined the group 6 Months after it was established, we had no idea she was pregnant, so in about 6 Months we saw those signs and knew in the next few months she was going to put to bed a child so we waited till that day and donated an amount of Ghc200 to her, in a week later, she came with news that she lost he brother and as rules demand, we went and donated an amount of Ghc1,000 to her to support the activity.

In about sex months, she got pregnant again and came to pre Inform is she will be sending us some good news, we sorted her out three months later.

It became a norm we couldn’t hold because she came once again claiming she lost her father in Law, at that point we set ourselves up to visit the family when some of the group member made inquiries to find out if there was such a funeral in the community she had mentioned, unfortunately there was nothing of that sort so we Withheld the Ghc1,000 and demanded for a death certificate before we could release the money to her, this took weeks yet she couldn’t produce it.

Weeks later she showed signs of pregnancy again, we organized an emergency meeting and reviewed our constitution, we included a clause that stated that if a member gives birth or father’s a child, the group wouldn’t Donate till after three years.

This created misunderstandings on her part but we had to stand by that, some people can really become opportunists over little favors and such things are bringing down our society.
