Mahama Zulfata is one daring young lady into the male-dominated trade called car fitting in Wa Municipal of the Upper West Region.

Fortunately, her interest got inginted after a woman Empowerment program she benefited from and by an organization called WEE-NORTH whose aim is to empower women into traditional male-dominated trades such as motor fitting, welders, plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers, and electricians.

Through the WEE-NORTH program, she was sent on attachment to learn motor fitting for a number of months and while there, was supported with a Monthly stipend, some tools, and safety boots. But the duration of the attachment and support was not enough to fully equip her to independently open her own shop and start working.

She therefore up-graded her dream by attaching herself to a car fitting shop in WA to learn car fitting. She has pledged to learn this trade for several years enough to fully equip her to know the trade.

To Zulfata, this apprenticeship will take her away from peer group influence hence hook-up or prostitution, travelling to Southern Ghana for menial jobs such as head porter and menial jobs at illegal mining sites.

To her, she wants to break the deadlock and be a role model to upcoming females so they can go into the male-dominated trades. She added that we live in a society where females are usually trusted by clients to execute projects more than males.

She made a passionate plea for support to facilitate her smooth apprenticeship.

The support includes,

Means of transport to and fro work, working tools since no apprentice will allow you to use his tools in learning, some Monthly stipend to enable her feed, especially in breakfast and lunch, and also to get sanitary pads, and support with safer boots and overall, since those benefited earlier have all worn out.
