
Twenty-four women are set to participate in the forthcoming district assembly elections scheduled alongside 706 male contenders across various municipalities and districts in the Upper West Region.
Data sourced from the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council reveals the unit committee nominations have seen a total of 1,897 submissions, including 64 women.
The Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, highlighted the region’s increased voter turnout, reaching 496,442 individuals, distributed across 1,222 polling stations.
During a media engagement held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC), the minister assured the public that all essential election materials, including verification devices and pink sheets, have been received and dispatched to the respective districts.
Encouraging civic responsibility, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih urged the public to actively participate in the democratic process by turning out to vote on December 19, 2023.
The presence of a substantial number of female candidates reflects a positive stride toward gender inclusivity in the region’s local governance.
The district assembly elections will be a pivotal moment for constituents to elect their representatives and shape the future direction of their communities.
