The much-awaited 2024 is here with us. The year is pregnant with a series of activities and it is a year Ghana will once again exercise her democratic and constitutional right in electing Members of Parliament and a President respectively.
Political parties are busy preparing themselves ahead of this all-important national exercise. There is a saying that “After rains come the sunshine”. That said, after internal reorganization, political parties take pragmatic steps to close their ranks and forge unity and harmony for the forward match of the parties.
However, that cannot be said about the NDC in the Lambussie Constituency. To avoid bad blood relationships and internal rancor, the Former Member of Parliament, Hon. Edward Dery who was also an aspirant in the May 2023 NDC Parliamentary Primaries has initiated several steps in fostering peace and unity in the party but all efforts have proven futile.
On several occasions, the peace-loving Former MP advocated for a united front in the constituency calling for cooler heads to reign. The only way to win the Lambussie seat is to work together as a family and add up to the anticipated number of NDC MPs that will be elected across the country, he added. The NDC needs a parliamentary majority to help President John Dramani Mahama implemented his well-thought-through 24-hour economy.
During the National Caucus for the NDC Parliamentary Aspirants Press Conference held in Accra last year 2023, the Hon. Edward Dery stated unequivocally that he will not go independent, that he will not work in opposition to the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Prof. Titus Kofi Beyuo, and that he will work with him and give him his full support to take back the seat from the NPP. Hon. Dery understands fully the ripple effects on the party for working against a Parliamentary Candidate after losing a contest.
This he said has happened to him in the 2020 elections where his colleague aspirants vigorously campaigned against him after losing at the Primaries. Having experienced such despicable acts from the past elections orchestrated by those political neophytes, he kept warning his supporters never to work against the Parliamentary Candidate of the NDC in the Lambussie Constituency.
It is, however, worthy of note that, the Parliamentary Candidate seems to be hesitant in brokering peace with the supporters of the Hon. Edward Dery. He appears to still be in the campaign (Primaries) mood and holding a grudge against people bbecause he feels that they used unprintable words on him during the primaries. His posturing does not seem to be reconciliatory and he does not look approachable.
One would have expected that the Parliamentary Candidate, Prof. Titus Kofi Beyuo by now should have been arranging meetings with the losing team, however, he feels they are not relevant to his course. Members of the PC’s camp have described the losers as; “weightless people, they do not matter, nobody will beg them and even if they do not support the PC, he will still win”.
Some party members have been removed from all the NDC platforms orchestrated by the Constituency Secretary, Mr. Irreneous Basingbie Naawulle for the reason that they did not support Prof. Titus Kofi Beyuo during the Primaries. Technically, these people are sacked from the party.
The Constituency Secretary and his conspirators failed to take inspiration from the biblical story where the shepherd left the ninety-nine (99) sheep to search for the lost one (I) sheep.
Someone should tell the PC that Hon. Bright Bakye Yelvielidong Baligi of the NPP has gone unopposed and he should be told what it means for someone to go unopposed in a major political party that is in power.
Despite the barrage of insults, Character defamation, and invectives on the Hon. Edward Dery and his supporters, he never relent in his effort to stitch the broken pieces together.
[1/3, 1:02 PM] Bemane: An attempt was made by him to arrange a reconciliation meeting between his supporters and the Parliamentary Candidate on January 2, 2024. At about noon, scores of supporters of the Hon. Edward Dery thronged the venue beaming with smiles on their faces in anticipation of the arrival of the Parliamentary Candidate, however, they were disappointed.
The PC failed to meet them for the reason that his supporters prevented him from honoring this all-important event. His supporters emphasized that they do not need anybody to win the elections because they are more than capable of championing the campaigns of the NDC Parliamentary Candidate and that Hon. Edward Dery and his so-called supporters can go to hell.
