Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has backed calls to halt assaulting students in schools for speaking vernacular.

He made the Statements during a Parliamentary sitting on 15th of February 2024 as part of Efforts to advocate for championing the use of Local Language in Facilitation in Schools across the country.

This comes in months after Dr. Solomon Dansie, a Lecturer with Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University advocated against Caning Students for Speaking Vernacular im Schools. Dr. Solomon was Interviewed on the 24th of October 2023 on Same Issues by Upper West Media Team.

He also Advocated for Students to focus on Pursuing Dagaare at SDD UBIDS rather than Traveling to Ajumako which is Expensive.

Getting people to train students in Speaking the local language is very scarce, I’m sure if we conduct a study in Upper West on the Waali Language I’m sure it will be the same matter..”

Mr. Samuel Ablakwa was of the View that Government should resource languages Departments to ensure More Resources are Trained to teach the local Languages in our Schools.
