The Community Development Alliance, CDA has commissioned two state-of-the-art groundnut grinding mills in Sissala West.
The beneficiary communities were Gwollu and Bouti. The initiative, part of the Ghana Trade and Investment Activity, GTIA, is aimed at supporting women engaged in groundnut cultivation and its value chain.
During a short durbar, the Member of Parliament for the Sissala West Constituency, Hon. Adams Sukparu Mohammed, while commending CDA for the initiative, has recognized the economic challenges faced by women, and emphasized the importance of such interventions in empowering them financially to care for their families. He has therefore pledged to engage with the women to ensure the sustained use and impact of the grinding mills.
In an interview with the Assembly member for the Nmagubelle Electoral Area, Hon. Laapa Gbemmie has expressed his gratitude for his community’s inclusion in the project.
He has highlighted the broader developmental efforts undertaken by CDA in the electoral area and assured ongoing engagement to bring more projects to his area.
Hon. Gbemmie has however urged women in other communities to follow the example set by Bouti’s women and seek support from NGOs for development projects.
Meanwhile, in an interview with some women, Madam Suraj Cecilia, the secretary to the Bouti women’s group, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the NGO for the groundbreaking project. She has encouraged women from other communities to follow suit and collaborate with CDA to foster a spirit of unity and collective development.
Also, Madam Mustapha Rahinatu, another resident of Bouti, shared her experience of previously carting groundnuts to distant communities for grinding, incurring additional costs and facing logistical challenges. With the newly installed mills in their town, Rahinatu expressed relief, stating that the mills would not only ease their burden but also motivate them to expand their groundnut cultivation capacity.
Madam Amoro Alimatu, previously unemployed, expressed joy at the opportunity to start a groundnut paste business, ensuring a sustainable income for her family. She extended her gratitude to CDA and everyone involved in the project.
In an interview with the Project Manager for CDA, Mr. Suleman Bipuah explained that the GTI Activity focuses on supporting women in trade, particularly those involved in groundnut cultivation and its value chain.
He stressed the crucial role women play in societies and families, emphasizing the need to protect and maintain the facilities for prolonged use.
He has also underscored the importance of women’s economic empowerment and its ripple effect on nutrition, health, education, and overall societal well-being.
Mr. Suleman Bipuah has also expressed his gratitude via a partnership with their sole sponsor, USAID for supporting the initiative in the procurement and installation of three groundnut processing machines, training on quality standards, traceability, branding, marketing, and financial management for the beneficiary women in Gwollu, Bouti and Lambussie.
