Residents of Kakyuu, a farming community located in the Eggu Electoral Area in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, are urgently sounding the alarm over their dire water access situation. With only two boreholes available, the community is struggling to meet the daily water needs of its growing population. A local resident, Mr. Kungbanzie Mumuni, expressed deep concern in an interview with Info Radio 91.1 FM , stating that the community has significantly outgrown its limited water supply infrastructure.
“These two boreholes are simply not enough,” Mumuni lamented. “During the dry season, we face even greater hardships as both residents and livestock rely solely on these dwindling sources of water.”
The situation is exacerbated during periods of drought, placing additional strain on both human and animal populations in Kakyuu. As families gather at the boreholes, they are met with long waits and limited access, making this essential resource a source of stress rather than relief.
