In a historic development for the people of Nandom in the Upper West Region, Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing has been appointed as the Acting Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the Ghana Armed Forces. His appointment marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the second native of Nandom to hold this esteemed position, following in the footsteps of the late Rear Admiral Chemogoh Kevin Dzang.
Continuing a Legacy of Excellence
Rear Admiral Chemogoh Kevin Dzang was the first from Nandom to ascend to the position of Chief of Naval Staff, serving with distinction in the Ghana Navy. Born on July 27, 1941, he rose through the ranks to become a key figure in Ghana’s military and political landscape. Beyond his role as CNS, he served as Secretary of State for Defence and later as Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan. His leadership and diplomatic engagements significantly contributed to the growth of the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation’s international relations.
Now, decades later, Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing follows in the footsteps of this distinguished officer. Commodore Bessing has had an impressive career in the Ghana Navy, holding various command and administrative roles. He previously served as the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) at Nutekpor, near Sogakope in the Volta Region. In this role, he played a key part in enhancing the professional development of naval personnel, facilitating partnerships with institutions such as Ho Technical University, Takoradi Technical University, and the University of Ghana Business School to certify military training programs.
Beyond his naval leadership, Commodore Bessing has also been involved in diplomatic and international military affairs. Prior to his recent appointment, he served as the Defence Advisor to the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, where he represented Ghana’s military interests and fostered stronger security collaborations between the two nations.
A Source of Pride for Nandom and the Ghana Navy
The appointment of Commodore Bessing as Acting CNS is a moment of immense pride for Nandom and the Upper West Region as a whole. It reinforces the region’s contribution to Ghana’s military leadership and highlights the excellence of its sons in the service of the nation.
As he steps into this new role, Commodore Bessing carries forward the legacy of Rear Admiral Dzang, ensuring that Nandom’s name remains etched in the history of Ghana’s Navy. His vast experience in military training, administration, and diplomacy makes him well-positioned to navigate the challenges and responsibilities that come with the office of the Chief of Naval Staff.
With this appointment, Nandom once again proves that it is a cradle of military excellence, producing leaders who serve Ghana with honor and distinction.
Let’s congratulate him.
