The Upper West Regional Minister, Lawyer Charles Lwanga Puozuing, has sounded an urgent alarm over the rising tide of illicit drug use across the region, describing it as a “harsh reality” that threatens the safety and wellbeing of the entire community.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page today, the Minister revealed the establishment of a Regional Task Force on Drug Abuse, a bold move aimed at addressing what he called a “pervasive issue” that has infiltrated every corner of society — from bus terminals to schools and private homes.
“It’s no longer a distant threat,” the Minister wrote. “The menace is present, persistent, and predatory. The Upper West Region is not immune to this problem.”
The newly inaugurated task force is expected to lead a multi-faceted campaign to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, provide support and rehabilitation resources for affected individuals, and implement practical strategies to prevent the further spread of the problem.

Lawyer Puozuing emphasized the importance of community involvement in tackling the crisis, calling on residents to unite in safeguarding the future of the region — especially its youth.
“Let’s join forces to create a safer, healthier environment for our community,” he urged. “The fight against illicit drug use requires collective effort, and this task force is a crucial step towards a brighter future.”
