The Year 2025 has been good year for some group of people and abysmal to others in the Upper West Region. There were some level of unfortunate developments that were recorded in the Region and these are some of them.

1. Galamsey Operators invade Black Volta in Charikpong, a Suburb of Nadowli-Kaleo District. On the 16th of December 2025, there were concerns about Illegal Mining Near the Black Volta. Stakeholders Called for Law Enforcement and Urgent Actions to Protect the Jambussie Water Project, Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary from Mercury.
2. Immigration Officer Faces Wrath of Youth in Hamile – Vehicle, Shop Burnt. The incident Occured on the 14th of September 2025 when the youth accused an officer known as Morris of breaching border protocols by allowing foreigners into and our of the country without due process followed.
3. Two Persons Killed in Suspected Ritual Murder. Two people have been confirmed dead in a Land Related Dispute at Dondoli, a Suburb of Wa Metropolis. State Security including National Security and the National Disaster Management Organization NADMO were present to mitigate the menace. The incident Occured on 30th December 2025.
4. Eric Johnson’s Murderer Jailed. Elisha Mahama was accused of Killing CEO of Royal Cossy Hill Safari Resort on 11th February 2024, He was found guilty and Sentenced to life imprisonment on 15th October 2025 and serving his sentence at Ankaful Prison in Central Region.
5. Three Communities Place Ban on Use of Sound Systems for Marriage Ceremonies.
   Between November and December 2025, Three Communities Places a Ban in the Use of Giant Sound Systems for Entertainment during marriage Ceremonies. The Communities Include Dondoli in Wa Metropolis, Duori Community in Wa Metropolis and Sakai in Sissala East Municipality. Sissala East Municipality has placed a Fine of Ghc4,000 on Impending Elopement.
6. Upper West Regional Director of Information Service Harassed by Immigration Officers. The Director, Mr. Sinto Nuhu Mustapha was mistaken to be a Fulani Man by some immigration Officers in the Sissala Enclave, His Ghc1,000 was forcefully taken away from him and he was slapped by an officer for questioning why his money was taken away from him. He spoke to the Media about it on the 18th of September 2025.
7. Major Sod Cutting Ceremony for Road Projects. On the 11th of November 2025. The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama was in Upper West to Cut Sod for Construction of Wa-Tumu-Navrongo Road and Wa-Sawla-Wenchi Road Project. From Police Station Roundabout to Bamahu will be Dualized. Several Roads will also see a Facelift including Wa to Yaala, Hamile to Tumu, Lawra to Han through to Tumu, Wa to Lawra According to President Mahama.

8. Suspected Ritual Murder Cases In Wa. On the 21st of September 2025, a 45- Year Old Yahaya Issa was murdered at Duori, a Suburb of Wa under questionable circumstances.

9. Young Man Shot by Police at Duori over Disagreements. Haruna Abdul Rashid from Tagirayiri and Resident of Duori was Shot by a Man Suspected to be a Staff of Police Intelligence Division ‘Anti Robbers’ during an Argument, The Victim Was Rushed to the Upper West Regional Hospital for Treatment on 1st July 2025. 10. Man Found Lifeless in a Gutter at Duori.A lifeless Man was found in a Gutter at Duori, Police arrived at the Scene including NADMO, Health Workers to Convey the Body for Investigations on 9th – June – 2025. Watch
