The Nadowli/Kaleo District in the Upper West Region is set to benefit from two 24-hour economy markets, as announced by the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq.

According to the Minister, 1 of the markets will be constructed in Nadowli under the central government’s flagship 24-hour economy initiative, while the second will be built in Sankana as a special intervention by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.

Hon. Charles Lwangu Puozuing made the announcement on Monday February 2, 2026 during a courtesy visits to the Sankana paramountcy in the Nadowli/Kaleo district, an exercise aimed at familiarising himself with traditional authorities and strengthening collaboration for grassroots development.

The Regional Minister stressed that, the Nadowli market is part of government efforts to boost local commerce, create jobs, and stimulate economic activities within the district. He explained that the Sankana market, initiated by the Speaker of Parliament, is intended to complement government interventions and promote balanced development across the district.

However, the District Chief Executive for Nadowli/Kaleo, Madam Mary Haruna, assured chiefs and elders of strong collaboration in the siting and implementation of the projects. She noted that the District Assembly would work closely with traditional authorities to ensure the markets are strategically located to maximise accessibility and economic impact.

Meanwhile, the Paramount Chief of the Sankana Traditional Area, Naa Pagraninge Saakoe Mornah III, commended the government for its swift intervention and commitment to accelerating development in the district.

Hon. Puozuing underscored the need for peace, unity, and cooperation between traditional leaders and government to ensure the smooth implementation of development projects. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusive development and pledged continuous engagement with traditional authorities.2

Chiefs and residents of the district welcomed the announcement, expressing appreciation to the central government and the Speaker of Parliament for prioritising the Nadowli/Kaleo District in the rollout of the 24-hour economy policy.
