POLICE ARREST THREE FOR POSSESSING FIREARMS WITHOUT LICENCES IN WA WEST DISTRICT

  1. Police officers on routine patrol operations in the Wa West District have arrested three (3) suspects for openly holding firearms and ammunitions without authority on Monday, February 3, 2026.
  2. During the patrol, the police team sighted a group of about five (5) men at Goziri, a community near Vieri, each armed with single-barrel gun and cutlass, thereby posing a potential threat to public safety.
  3. Upon noticing the approaching police patrol vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee the scene. However, through swift and professional action, the patrol team pursued and successfully arrested three (3) of the suspects, identified as Yahaya Samad aged 27 years, Adams Alhassan aged 37 years and Yiritang Boosi aged 35 years old.
  4. A search conducted on them at the scene led to the retrieval of three (3) single-barrel guns, three (3) cutlasses and twenty-three (23) BB cartridges from the suspects.
  5. The suspects were subsequently conveyed to the police station, and during interrogation, they confessed they had no licences to bear the guns and ammunitions.
  6. They have since been remanded by the Wa Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako to reappear on 18/02/2026, whilst efforts are also intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape to face the law.
  7. The Upper West Regional Police Command commends the vigilance and professionalism of the patrol team and wishes to caution the public, particularly individuals with firearms without licence to immediately regularize them or face decisive action from the Police.
