PRESS STATEMENT
URGENT CALL FOR THE RELOCATION OF NDC WA EAST CONSTITUENCY ELECTIONS
Date: 19th October, 2026
Subject: Appeal for the Relocation of the Constituency Elections from Funsi and Goripie in the Interest of Peace and Security
We, the concerned citizens, stakeholders, and peace-loving people of the Wa East Constituency, respectfully appeal to the National Security, the Upper West Regional Minister, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and all relevant party executives to urgently reconsider the designated venues for the upcoming NDC Wa East Constituency Elections.
Recent developments surrounding the elections have generated considerable concern among residents and party members. According to reports attributed to Kangyiri Radio, National Security has advised that the elections be relocated from Funsi and Goripie due to security concerns, including reported religious tensions in Goripie.
Given these concerns, we believe that the safety of delegates, party members, and the general public must remain the highest priority. No electoral contest should come at the expense of peace, unity, and public safety.
We therefore make the following appeals:
- Immediate Consideration of Relocation
We call on the National Security authorities and the Upper West Regional Minister to urgently assess the situation and facilitate the relocation of the elections to a safer, neutral, and mutually acceptable venue, in line with the relevant security advice.
- Protection of Lives and Preservation of Peace
We urge all stakeholders to take the reported tensions seriously and avoid any actions that could worsen the situation. Every effort must be made to prevent misunderstandings, protect lives, and maintain peaceful coexistence among the people of Wa East.
- Responsibility of Party Leadership
We appeal to the national and regional leadership of the NDC to engage all relevant stakeholders and reach a timely decision that prioritizes the safety and well-being of delegates, party members, and the wider community.
- An Appeal for Calm and Restraint
We call on all aspirants, delegates, supporters, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and residents to remain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from spreading unverified information. We must all work together to preserve the peace for which our constituency is known.
CONCLUSION
The peace and security of Wa East must always come before individual interests and electoral ambitions. We therefore urge the relevant authorities and party leadership to act promptly, responsibly, and transparently to address these concerns before the situation deteriorates.
Let us choose dialogue over confrontation, unity over division, and peace over uncertainty.
Wa East deserves peace. Our people deserve security. Our elections must be conducted in a safe and peaceful environment.
Signed:
Concerned Citizens and Stakeholders of Wa East Constituency
